I envision Music Ministry
as integral and vital to the overall ministry of the church. Indeed,
music is a cornerstone in the building of a community of faith! My
intent has always been to work closely with, and understand the vision
of the minister and church; thus striving to make the ministry of the
music a compliment to the ministry of the pulpit. In this way, a
service can be whole, unfragmented, with purpose and significance in its
wholeness.
I believe Christian music …
-
is one of the primary ways
in which the congregation praises God;
-
is an avenue for the Holy
Spirit and human spiritual expression;
-
provides an avenue for
those who love music to offer their own talents and gifts in
worship;
-
helps bring people into the
church and fosters community within the congregation;
-
teaches the values of the
goodness of diversity, the authenticity of different cultures, and
openness toward a variety of ways to praise God, as well as the
importance of including children, youth, adults and senior in
worship and congregational life;
-
finds full expression
through discipline and fun;
-
is classical, gospel, folk,
contemporary; and each, in an appropriate blend, should be used; and
-
can thus touch every
soul!
I find it important to
appreciate the diverse backgrounds and talents within the congregation,
and encourage those talents to be developed and expressed. As these
precious people are encouraged to grow musically, I also eagerly seek
growth in my own knowledge of music and my Christian faith.
Recognizing that the very Voice
of God is heard through music, I seek to encourage others to hear and
respond to God’s call to the Music Ministry, for I firmly believe God
uses those involved in this high and holy service (no matter the age),
to truly minister and bless through their musical offering each week.
I encourage musical
participation from every segment of the congregation: children, youth,
adults and seniors through solos, ensembles, duos, trios, instrumentals,
drama and dance. I believe strongly that a very active graded choir
program serves as the "seed" program for the adult program.
In conclusion, my faith in The
Holy Trinity is the ground of my vision for a strong Music Ministry. To
paraphrase, it is He that will make the program and not we ourselves!
